Newswise — February 14, 2013 ― Red Bank, NJ ― For the fifth year in a row, the Meridian Health Red Dress Event will celebrate and raise awareness for women’s heart health at a fun-filled and health-focused event in Red Bank, New Jersey. In partnership with The Heart Truth™ campaign, sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), Meridian CardioVascular Network’s event on Thursday, February 21 will showcase fashions direct from New York Fashion Week’s Red Dress Collection.

At the event, guests will enjoy a front-row view of the dresses from acclaimed designers, including Badgley Mischka and Nicole Miller. Select dresses debuted at the NYC Red Dress Collection fashion show on February 6, which featured model celebrity supporters such as Olympic gold medalist gymnast Gabby Douglas, CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien, and Jillian Michaels, personal trainer and star of The Biggest Loser.

At Meridian’s Red Dress event, guests will also have a chance to learn from Meridian CardioVascular Network experts, including Dawn Calderon, D.O., FACC, Chief of Cardiology & Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “The Red Dress is a stylish symbol with a serious message. It’s an important reminder that heart disease is still the #1 killer of women in the United States, and that we need to empower and educate women to take charge of their own heart health,” explains Dr. Calderon.

Join the fun in Red Bank on Thursday, February 21 at Buona Sera Restaurant and Bar at 7:00 p.m. The elegant evening promises to delight with signature red cocktails, delicious passed hors d’oeuvres, music, door prizes and giveaways. Tickets are $50.00 per person, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Meridian CardioVascular Network. The evening will also highlight local women’s stories about surviving heart disease and offer expert tips on how to decrease risk factors.
