Newswise — COLUMBIA, Md. – Gordon K. Norman, M.D., M.B.A., and Janet Tomcavage, R.N., M.S.N., have been named chief medical officer and chief of population health, respectively, of xG Health Solutions™, an independently operated venture that will make Geisinger’s intellectual property and expertise available to other healthcare systems.
“Gordon and Janet understand the importance of population health management,” said Earl P. Steinberg, M.D., chief executive officer of xG Health Solutions and executive vice president for innovation and dissemination at Geisinger Health System. “More importantly, they have tremendous expertise in this critically important area. Their experience and leadership will help us bring the successful Geisinger innovations, such as our ProvenHealth Navigator® medical home program, to healthcare organizations throughout the country.”
Over the past 35 years, Dr. Norman has held executive leadership roles in the provider, hospital, health plan and supplier sectors of health care, with a focus on primary care, healthcare quality improvement and population health improvement.
Most recently, Dr. Norman served as chief innovation officer for Alere, Inc., of Waltham, Mass., where he was responsible for product discovery, development and management for the Alere Health Division business, while working to create collaborative solutions with health systems and physicians to support patient-centered delivery models. Dr. Norman served on the Board of Directors of The Care Continuum Alliance, the health management industry’s national association, from 2003-2011, and was chairman from 2009-2011.
Dr. Norman received his undergraduate, medical and MBA degrees from Stanford University, Stanford, Calif. Following family medicine training in Maine and New York, he practiced in rural upstate New York, and later, southern New Hampshire.
Ms. Tomcavage has played a variety of roles at Geisinger for more than 30 years. For the last 12 years, Ms. Tomcavage has led development and oversight of Geisinger Health Plan’s embedded case manager program and other innovative population health management strategies. She has extensive experience in disease and case management.
In addition to her responsibilities at xG Health Solutions, Ms. Tomcavage is the health services chief administrative officer for Geisinger Insurance Operations (GIO). In this role, she co-leads the insurance company’s Health Services Department with the chief medical officer.
Ms. Tomcavage earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Bloomsburg State University and her master’s degree in nursing from College Misericordia, Dallas, Pa.
