WHAT: Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the National Football League Players Association and The George Washington University Cancer Institute will host a media breakfast at The George Washington University Hospital to announce exciting news about the annual Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure, taking place in Washington, DC on May 11th, Mother’s Day weekend.

Washington Redskins’ Josh Morgan announces Komen’s new Race partnership with the NFL Players Association and its “One Team for the Cure” program.

Washington Redskins’ wide receiver Josh Morgan is serving as the 2013 Global Race for the Cure Local Ambassador. In the spirit of the 2013 Race theme “Make Mom Proud,” Morgan will discuss the mother in his life in whose honor he is participating: his godmother, a local survivor of triple negative breast cancer. Morgan is forming a team and will be fundraising on her behalf.

The 2013 Susan G. Komen National Capital Area Community Grant Recipients

Thanks in part to funds raised by participants at last year’s Race, Komen awarded $1.5M to 7 local, DC-area programs. Komen currently has 18 active grants to community education and treatment centers totaling $7.3M. Event co-host, the GW Cancer Institute, is a Komen grant recipient and a survivor who received treatment in their program will speak about its services.
