Newswise — ROCHESTER, Minn. -- The Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation will hold Transform 2013, its sixth multidisciplinary symposium focused on transforming the way health care is experienced and delivered, Sept. 8–10 in Rochester. Dozens of speakers from a wide array of backgrounds will look through different lenses to understand a larger picture of health care today. Topics include new models of care delivery, the uncertainty of change in the health care landscape, the intersection of business and health care innovation and how to scale programs to large populations.
Journalist and commentator John Hockenberry returns to Transform to moderate the symposium discussions. “There is a real hunger to talk about changing the health care, and it is our responsibility to change health care and make sure we are on the cutting-edge of doing things right,” says Hockenberry.
* Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO, a design consultancy, and Target’s Kevin Ronneberg, M.D., will discuss how retail can change the experience of care.
* Maria Bartiromo, a CNBC anchor, will join the panel discussion with industry leaders to discuss a dynamic intersection of business and health care.
* Nancy Snyderman, M.D., medical commentator for NBC, will join the “Unraveling” session to discuss how to put patients’ needs at the center of care.
* In the “Elephants in the Room” session, Gary Slutkin, M.D., and a “violence interrupter” from Chicago-based Cure Violence will share their insights about gun violence and the public health approach to violence reduction.
“Our aim is to nurture the dialogue among this group of diverse thought leaders. I look forward to collaborative discussions and the sharing of insights from across disciplines,” says Douglas Wood, M.D., medical director of the Center for Innovation at Mayo Clinic.
