Newswise — San Francisco, CA. (October 8, 2013) – The International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) is pleased to announce the launch of its newest publication, A&A Case Reports, a peer-reviewed online journal focused exclusively on sharing and discussion of informative clinical experiences.

The first issue of A&A Case Reports will be released today, with new cases to be published twice monthly. The new digital journal is dedicated to reporting patient cases that make an important teaching point or scientific observation in disciplines related to anesthesiology: perioperative medicine, critical care, and pain management.

As an online companion to the flagship journal Anesthesia & Analgesia, A&A Case Reports will be cross-indexed with A&A. All new case reports will be open access during the launch period.

The premiere edition of A&A Case Reports will be accessible via the journal website, cases-anesthesia-analgesia.org. In addition, an iPad edition of A&A Case Reports will be available on the popular Anesthesia & Analgesia app.

Lawrence J. Saidman, MD, Emeritus Professor of Stanford University is Editor-in-Chief of A&A Case Reports, supported by members of the Anesthesia & Analgesia Editorial Board. Dr. Saidman will work in conjunction with Nancy A. Nussmeier, MD, who will serve as Associate Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Saidman comments, "By assembling and sharing interesting cases, A&A Case Reports can contribute to the ongoing dialogue that defines the standard of care of patients undergoing anesthesia for surgery, treatment for chronic pain, and other issues we all deal with on a daily basis. We are excited that this new resource will be making significant contributions to the medical literature within our field."

The editors plan a streamlined submission and tracking process, using the same familiar manuscript submission system currently used by Anesthesia & Analgesia. To ensure the most timely and useful content, of A&A Case Reports follows a rapid but rigorous peer review and approval, typically within four weeks.

"We've put together a thought-provoking collection of cases for our first issue," Dr. Saidman adds. "We believe anesthesiologists will find this new journal enjoyable and stimulating, and hope it will spur them to share their own experience with our readers by submitting Case Reports to this journal." The editors have issued a call for submissions, and are accepting manuscripts at http://www.editorialmanager.com/aa/.
