Newswise — San Francisco, CA – The International Anesthesia Research Society announces the availability of $16,000 in grant funding intended to fund novel concepts or applications that improve educational programs and advance the practice of anesthesiology. The application period for the Teaching Recognition Award for Innovation in Education closes on January 31, 2014.

The Teaching Recognition Award for Innovation in Education is intended to fund educational projects that represent novel concepts or applications that improve educational programs and advance the practice of anesthesiology. Past winners include Lawrence Chu, MD, of the Stanford University School of Medicine and Edward Nemergut, MD, of the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia. Both Dr. Chu and Dr. Nemergut are well known for their innovative approaches to medical resident education in the field of anesthesiology.

Candidates for the Teaching Recognition Award may come from every career stage and must demonstrate recent and documented implementation of new educational tools and practices. The award includes a $1,000 prize to the recipient and a $15,000 educational grant to the recipient’s institution to support the awardee’s established and ongoing educational project.

The IARS is looking for well-rounded candidates with solid teaching goals, some prior teaching award or recognition, with educational committee membership, and a record of publication of articles or teaching aids. Interested applicants may apply by submitting an online application here.
