Newswise — March 15, 2014 – Warrendale, PA (USA) – The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and ASM International announce the highly anticipated first issue of Metallurgical and Materials Transactions E: Materials for Energy Systems, a new journal of peer-reviewed, original research and review articles focused on the science and technology of energy materials. A major goal of the publication is to help advance materials solutions for energy and environmental challenges.
The journal, published in partnership with Springer Science+Business Media, joins the established Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A: Physical Metallurgy and Materials Science and Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B: Process Metallurgy and Materials Processing Science publications. The articles from the first two volume years of Metallurgical and Materials Transactions E will be available online for free at the Springer website. The journal will be published quarterly.
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions E is under the editorial leadership of David Laughlin, principal editor, and Victorino Franco and Steven J. Zinkle, editors. Laughlin is Alcoa Professor of Physical Metallurgy at Carnegie Mellon University. Franco is a professor in the condensed matter physics department at Sevilla University in Spain. Zinkle is Governor’s Chair, Department of Nuclear Engineering, University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
"Advancing materials solutions for energy and environmental challenges is a topic of great importance to TMS, and Metallurgical and Materials Transactions is certainly one of our most influential means of engaging the global materials community," said James J. Robinson, TMS executive director. "I very much look forward to seeing how these two activities produce new synergies via an evolutionary 'E' volume of the journal. We have certainly assembled an exceptional editorial team that is making exciting things happen already."
“The demand for clean energy alternatives in the modern world is high, so this journal is a timely investigation into materials research on the subject. Advances in materials technology are the foundation for technologies that will lead to the development of innovative energy systems and improve energy efficiency of industrial processes,” said Thomas S. Passek, managing director of ASM International. “We are pleased to expand the Metallurgical and Materials Transactions brand to provide a forum for capturing research and implementation results to support current and future materials developments for energy system application.”
New articles to be included in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions E are being collected in an ongoing process and may be submitted through an online link. Topics covered in the journal include battery, biomass, fuel cell, geothermal, hydrocarbons, hydrogen storage, nuclear, solar cell, supercapacitor, thermal conversion, thermochemistry, thermoelectricity, wind, and other energy technologies as they emerge. Various areas of materials research, including larger materials issues with applications to energy, also are included.
