Newswise — According to the most recent outcomes data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, the Porter Transplant Center in Denver, Colorado has demonstrated some of the best survival rates for some of the sickest liver transplant patients in the region.

Looking at Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) scores that were 30 or greater, where scores above 30 typically indicate that a patient would have less than a 50% chance of surviving more than three months in a hospital, the Porter Transplant Center showed a remarkable 95% survival rate after liver transplant. This result was only second to one other facility in the region and was by far the best in the tri-state area of Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska.

Most of the Porter Transplant Center’s success and outstanding patient outcomes can be attributed to Dr. Tom Heffron, one of the nation’s most experienced and highly trained transplant surgeons. Dr. Heffron has been an integral part of the Porter transplant program for more than four years and is one of the most prominent liver transplant experts in the country.
