Newswise — Pauline Camacho, MD, FACE, was elected vice president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) at its 23rd Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress today in Las Vegas. AACE is the world’s largest association of clinical endocrinologists.

Dr. Camacho is director of the Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center of Loyola University Health System. She also is a professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and she serves as director for the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at Loyola.

“AACE serves as a valuable resource to help endocrinologists deliver the highest quality of care to our patients,” Dr. Camacho said. “I look forward to continuing to advance the mission of AACE through this leadership position.”

As vice president, Dr. Camacho will serve on the association’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors. She also will work on committees and task forces as appointed by the AACE president.

Dr. Camacho has been actively involved with AACE since her fellowship. She served as the Fellow-in-Training Committee (FIT) representative to the Board of Directors from 1999-2000 and was then elected to the AACE Board of Directors in 2003. Dr. Camacho also has served as secretary.

During her eight-year term on the board, she headed the FIT Committee and was a member of the Membership, International, Education Services and Legislative and Regulatory Committees. She also was a member of the AACE Annual Meeting Program Committee for a total of five years, was vice chair in 2008, co-chair in 2009 and chair in 2011. Additionally, she chaired the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) Subcommittee for a number of years and served on the Postmenopausal Osteoporosis CPG Writing Group. Currently, Dr. Camacho is the chair of the Publications Committee.

The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists represents more than 6,000 endocrinologists in the United States and abroad. Most of its members are certified in endocrinology and metabolism and concentrate on the treatment of patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, growth hormone deficiency, cholesterol disorders, hypertension and obesity.
