Newswise — Alfred (Fred) J. Nanni Jr., Professor of Accounting, has been named Provost of Babson College.

“Fred Nanni is one of Babson’s most experienced and versatile faculty leaders,” said President Kerry Healey. “During his 21 years at Babson, Professor Nanni has been deeply immersed in all aspects of the College’s academic life and has made an indelible mark on our people and programs. I am confident his vast experience inside and outside of the classroom, and his familiarity working with both faculty and staff on critical academic matters, makes him uniquely qualified to lead our academic affairs at this pivotal time in Babson’s history.”

Nanni is the Jefferson Vander Wolk Professor of Management, Accounting, and Operational Performance. He performs practice-oriented research on performance measurement, management systems, and strategy execution.

Nanni has taught in undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs. He was the lead designer and original Program Director of the Intermediate Management Core Program, Babson’s innovative multidisciplinary, multiyear core business program for undergraduates. He has extensive teaching experience in both traditional face-to-face and online hybrid contexts.

He has been chair of the Accounting & Law Division at Babson and served twice as chair and co-chair of Babson’s college-wide promotion and tenure committee.

Nanni has written a wide variety of articles within this research domain for both academic and practitioner audiences. He has co-authored a pair of books on the subject: Delivering Results: Managing What Matters (with Larry Carr) and The New Performance Challenge: Measuring Operations for World-Class Competition (with J. Robb Dixon and Thomas E. Vollmann).

He also has consulted extensively on strategic cost management and performance measurement with both large and small manufacturing and service firms.

Prior to his arrival at Babson, Nanni held positions at The Pennsylvania State University College of Business Administration, and Boston University School of Management. At Boston University, he was chair of the Accounting Department as well as director of the Accounting Doctoral Program.

He earned his BA from Syracuse University (cum laude), and his MSBA and PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

He will assume the role of Provost on July 1, 2014. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/1kprUQY.
