Newswise — During its 109th Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando the American Urological Association officially launched the AUA Leadership Program’s sixth class by announcing Mitchell R. Humphreys, M.D., a urologist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona as one of 20 urologists who will be taking part in the program over the next year.

The year-long program is designed to enable urologists to participate in strategic leadership events; network with peers; gain an inside look into the AUA governance and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity.

Dr. Humphreys received his medical school training at the University of Missouri, and went on to complete residency at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He completed an Endourology fellowship at Indiana University and Methodist Hospital. Since then he’s been a consultant at Mayo Clinic in Arizona where he specializes in surgical and metabolic stone disease, BPH (with a special focus on HoLEP), and minimally invasive GU oncology. As an Associate Professor in Urology, he has provided leadership for the Center for Procedural Innovation and currently serves as the Endourology Fellowship director. He sits on several institutional committees, including some outside of Mayo as a Board of Trustee for Columbia College.

Upon completion of the program, Dr. Humphreys will have an opportunity to become more active in the AUA at the national and Section levels.

“This very successful program has enabled a number of very talented young urologists to assume leadership positions in the AUA at an earlier career stage,” said William W. Bohnert, MD, AUA President. “These individuals have brought fresh ideas, new approaches and significant energy to the Association.”
