Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — 10 June 2014 — The University of Virginia Darden School of Business announced today that Darden alumnus James (Jim) Cooper (MBA '84), senior managing partner at Thompson Street Capital and current vice chair of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees, will assume the role of chair on 1 July 2014. Jim succeeds Darden alumnus Phil Knisely (MBA '78), who has served as chair since June 2012. Darden alumna Elizabeth K. Weymouth (MBA '94), partner and managing director at Riverstone Holdings LLC., was elected to serve as vice chair of the Foundation board.Jim Cooper_Darden (MBA '84)

"We are excited to have Jim and Elizabeth assume the chair and vice chair positions, respectively, on our Foundation board of trustees," said Darden Dean Bob Bruner. "Jim has served as vice chair since April 2013 and has been a successful leader in this role. Elizabeth has graciously served Darden in a variety of roles in the past, and we look forward to the positive impact her leadership will have in her new capacity as vice chair," added Bruner.

Cooper founded Thompson Street Capital Partners in 2000 and is the firm's senior managing partner. He has been active in private equity for 20 years. He has served on Darden's board of trustees since 2011 and also serves on the board of directors of First Banks Inc., the development board of St. Louis Children's Hospital and is finance committee chair of the Community School. He received his MBA from Darden and M.S. and B.S. degrees in engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Cooper welcomed Weymouth into her new role. "Elizabeth has been an integral member of the board of trustees since 2007. She has served as chair of the Investment Committee since 2013 and also dedicated her time to working closely as a mentor, in that capacity, with Darden Capital Management students," said Cooper. "I look forward to collaborating with her to lead the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees. I am confident that her leadership and professional experience will help maintain the board's high standard of excellence."

Elizabeth K. Weymouth_Darden (MBA '94)Weymouth is a partner at Riverstone Holdings, a $27 billion private investment firm focusing on the energy and power sectors. Weymouth has overall responsibility for capital raising and limited partner relations and serves on the board of Pattern Energy Group. She earned her B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1989 and her MBA from Darden in 1994. Prior to joining the board of trustees in 2007 she served on the Darden Corporate Advisory Board from 2001 to 2007.
