MANHATTAN, KANSAS — A Kansas State University political scientist can provide insight on recent events in the Middle East, including Islamic radicals advancing through Iraq.

Sabri Ciftci, assistant professor of political science, researches Islam and democracy, religion and democratic attitudes as well as civic engagement in the Middle East and the Muslim world.

Ciftci specializes in Middle Eastern and Turkish politics. He teaches courses in Middle East politics, political Islam, comparative politics and advanced research methods.

His research appears or is forthcoming in Comparative Political Studies, Political Research Quarterly, International Journal of Middle East Studies and European Union Politics. He is the principal investigator of Turkish Parliamentarians Survey (2003-2004) and Youth Attitudes about Turkish Foreign Policy: An Experimental Study (2010).
