July 20, 2014, is the 45th anniversary of the first manned mission to the moon. George Washington University has experts on the political, scientific and administrative aspects of the space program and moon landing, including several housed in GW’s Space Policy Institute.

John Logsdon, professor emeritus of political science and international affairs, can comment on the policy and historical aspects of U.S. and international space activities. Dr. Logsdon is the author of “John F. Kennedy and the Race to the Moon” (2010).

Scott Pace, professor of the practice of international affairs and of public policy and public administration, is the director of GW’s Space Policy Institute. Dr. Pace is an expert on civil, commercial and national security space policy. He has worked at both NASA and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Henry Hertzfeld, research professor of space policy and international affairs, is an expert on space law. Dr. Hertzfeld focuses on economic, legal and policy issues related to space. He has conducted several economic studies related to NASA and the U.S. space program. Dr. Hertzfeld has served as a senior economist and policy analyst at both NASA and the National Science Foundation.

Zoe Szajnfarber, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering, is an expert on innovation and technology at NASA. Dr. Szajnfarber has done extensive fieldwork at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

Eric Grynaviski, assistant professor of political science and international affairs, is an expert on the Cold War and international security. He can comment on the international environment at the time.

Kris Lehnhardt, assistant professor of emergency medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, specializes in aerospace medicine. Dr. Lehnhardt can comment on health challenges faced by astronauts.
