Newswise — LOS ANGELES – July 15, 2014 – With 12 medical specialties rated among the finest in the nation, Cedars-Sinai has been named to the Honor Roll in the 2014-15 issue of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.
Cedars-Sinai is among just 17 out of approximately 5,000 hospitals nationwide to earn the magazine’s Honor Roll designation. To be named to the Honor Roll, a hospital must be rated among the nation’s top 50 programs in at least six specialties.
“While we always appreciate this type of national recognition, at Cedars-Sinai we are primarily focused on our patients, providing the highest quality, compassionate care in an efficient manner to each of them and to their families,” said Thomas M. Priselac, Cedars-Sinai’s president and CEO. “We also remain focused on improving the health of people throughout Los Angeles through our hundreds of community benefit programs and increasing access for the underserved, as well as on our innovative biomedical research and education programs.”
The 12 Cedars-Sinai specialties ranked are: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology.
Report rankings are based on patient safety, mortality rates and other factors, as well as reputation among a randomly selected group of physicians from across the nation.
Cedars-Sinai is internationally renowned for its diagnostic and treatment capabilities and its broad spectrum of programs and services, as well as advances in biomedical research and innovative medical education programs. For 18 years in a row, Los Angeles-area residents have voted Cedars-Sinai No. 1 for best overall healthcare quality, doctors and nurses in National Research Corporation’s annual Market Insights survey. Cedars-Sinai Medical Group and Cedars-Sinai Health Associates are both ranked among the top 10 physician groups in Southern California by Integrated Health Care Associates (IHA), a California leadership group of health plans, physician groups, and health systems.
