Temple University Psychologist Frank Farley is available to discuss the suicide of comedian and actor Robin Williams. A former President of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Media Psychology, Farley has studied creative risk-takers in the media and entertainment world, business, politics, sports, and other areas.

"Robin Williams was a risk-taking on-the-edge improvisational comedian, where anxiety and fear of failure on the one hand and exhilaration and sense of accomplishment on the other hand may be key personal features," says Farley. "Depression and self-medication can be ingredients. Meeting entertainment expectations of being the funniest person of all, is a high bar that no one can meet all the time."
