Newswise — TOLEDO, Ohio, August 25, 2014 – ProMedica Physicians Accountable Care Organization (ACO) has been named to Becker's Hospital Review’s annual list of "100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know." The list highlights a variety of Medicare and commercial-payer ACOs, the majority of which are led by hospitals or health systems.

An ACO is a group of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers who come together voluntarily to give coordinated high-quality care to their Medicare patients. This includes collaborating to improve patient care coordination, reduce duplication of services and ultimately, improve patient outcomes.

“Our focus is on providing the highest quality care to patients at the right time and in the right setting,” said Lee Hammerling, MD, chief physician executive and chief medical officer, ProMedica. “This recognition acknowledges our efforts to transform our care models to improve the health and well-being of our patients while reducing costs.”

This is the third year Becker's Hospital Review has published its list of ACOs to know, and the number of organizations to choose from has grown each year: There are now more than 625 ACOs in the nation. This year, the editorial team selected ACOs for inclusion based on the number of physicians involved and lives covered, the lifespan of the ACO, whether it has contracts with multiple payers and whether it recently struck new payer agreements.
