As the September 18 Scottish Referendum approaches, Dr. Kristen Walton, president of the North American Organization of Scottish Historians, can speak about the democratic tradition in Scotland, how it has been defined by its relationship to England, and why the 2014 referendum is unique and unpredictable.

As an alumna of the University of St. Andrews (Scotland), the College of William and Mary, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Walton has published two books on Scottish history and written several articles including “Scottish Nationalism: an ideology, a sentiment, or a creation?” for International Social Science Review. At Salisbury University, MD, where she teaches, her Scottish history class is debating the referendum on Thursday, September 18.

To arrange an interview with Walton, please call the SU Public Relations Office at 410-543-6030 or 443-735-9031 after regular business hours, or email [email protected].
