Newswise — Gail Hecht, MD, division director of gastroenterology and nutrition at Loyola University Health System, was named one of 160 Gastroenterologists to Know in 2014 by Becker’s ASC Review. The list features physicians recognized for their leadership, research and business development.

Gastroenterology is a broad field covering a wide range of patient care from endoscopy and colonoscopy to hepatitis C and pancreatic cancer.

In addition to her leadership role at Loyola University Health System, Dr. Hecht also is FCO division director of gastroenterology and GI residency program director at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and she is a past president of the American Gastroenterological Association. Her research interests include the interactions and mechanisms of enteric bacterial pathogens with host intestinal epithelial cells.
