Newswise — STONY BROOK, NY, October 7, 2014 – Science on Tap, a live event and web show created by the Stony Brook University School of Journalism’s Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, makes its debut at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook Campus on Wednesday, October 26 at 6:00pm with featured topic, “Autism: What Works and Why?
Science on Tap host Steven Reiner, a broadcast journalism professor at Stony Brook, will be joined by guest scientist, Dr. Matthew Lerner, Stony Brook Assistant Professor of Psychology, Psychiatry & Pediatrics. Dr. Lerner, who testified as an expert witness at the Sandy Hook trial regarding Autism and violent acts, will look to answer the questions about what works in helping children with Autism and why it does. As Director of the Stony Brook Social Competence and Treatment Lab, Lerner’s research goal is to probe what underlies the individual challenges people on the autism spectrum experience with social interactions, and then develop interventions precisely tailored to help overcome these challenges.
SCIENCE ON TAP is an occasional series of interviews before a live audience produced by Stony Brook University’s Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and available on the Center’s website, www.aldacenter.org.
