Newswise — Neptune, NJ – October 8, 2014 – On Tuesday, September 16, Jersey Shore University Medical Center celebrated the generosity of supporters of The Next Step – a fundraising campaign that includes a Kid’s Phase component focused on the expansion of K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore, the region’s most comprehensive provider of pediatric care in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

With support from the campaign, the children’s hospital completed a second Acute Care Pediatric Unit, providing an additional 14 private rooms, and increasing the total pediatric acute care capacity to 44 beds and the number of private pediatric beds from 6 to 20. The Next Step also helped build a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), adding four intensive care beds for a total PICU capacity of 10 beds.

“The Next Step is a campaign dedicated to a new phase of progress for Jersey Shore and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. As the demand for pediatric care continues to grow in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, more people recognize the value of providing the community with advanced, accessible health care. Through the Kid’s Phase of the campaign, we are making sure that the critical needs of the region’s sickest children are met,” says Steven G. Littleson, FACHE, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

According to Walter (Rob) Earle II, president, Earle Asphalt Company, Foundation Board member at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and chairman of The Next Step campaign’s Kid’s Phase, “This marks another great moment of the progression of quality health care in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. With The Next Step, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital has made significant steps toward providing the absolute best, most advanced pediatric care in the area, complete with cutting edge treatment, advanced equipment and facilities, and top-rated physicians. As the father of five children and as part of a family with many children in the area, I value the importance of access to great pediatric services close to home, and realize how fortunate we are to have this level of health care in our community.”
