Newswise — MAYWOOD, Ill. – Loyola’s Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center has been awarded a three-year accreditation with commendation from the respected Commission on Cancer (CoC).
Centers seeking voluntary CoC accreditation undergo on-site evaluation by physician surveyors. Loyola was compliant in all 26 CoC program standards, and received the highest rating in each of seven standards covering such areas as clinical management, research, oncology education, public reporting of outcomes, perfect adherence to American College of Pathology guidelines, strong nursing leadership, community outreach and continuous commitment to providing high-quality improvements.
Loyola is accredited through October, 2017.
The Commission on Cancer is the only multidisciplinary accreditation program for cancer programs in the United States. Accreditation ensures a center will provide a full range of services to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support cancer patients and their families. Accredited programs continually evaluate their performance and take corrective action when necessary.
The CoC was established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons. CoC partners with more than 50 national organizations and federal programs committed to improving cancer care and outcomes, including the National Cancer Institute, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Cancer Society and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
