Newswise — Washington, D.C. - The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) has selected the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) to host the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). This esteemed event brings together more than 3,500 students and their faculty mentors for a three day conference. NCUR provides students with the opportunity to present their scholarly research in a professional setting and interact with their peers, in addition to meeting with graduate school and corporate recruiters. The event will take place in Edmond, OK, March 2018.

While discussing the selection, Elizabeth Ambos, CUR’s Executive Officer stated: “University of Central Oklahoma’s detailed and thoughtful proposal to host this keystone event, as well as its deep commitment to the culture and practice of undergraduate research, and its collaborative network of regional partners, were outstanding evidence of its readiness to host an excellent conference. CUR is very pleased and excited to work with UCO to produce a stellar event.”

After working for several years on the proposal to host the event, UCO President Don Betz stated “we are honored to be selected by the Council for Undergraduate Research to host NCUR 2018. We are equally delighted to join with our Oklahoma colleagues in welcoming this premier national scholarly event to our state for the first time. This is a unique opportunity to showcase undergraduate research as a high-impact practice that effectively encourages and prepares students for careers in STEM and other disciplines. The statewide collaboration that has successfully produced Oklahoma Research Day for the past 15 years will now fuel the convening of NCUR 2018 at UCO in Edmond and in the OKC metro.”

This gathering of young scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all corners of the academic curriculum, generating a unique learning opportunity. UCO Provost John Barthell is looking forward to the energy this event will bring to campus and the wider UCO community, “we are pleased and excited to be able to host a conference of this magnitude that recognizes undergraduate research through so many disciplines. The event represents a collaborative opportunity for our college and university partners throughout the state of Oklahoma, and we are looking forward to the involvement of venues in Edmond and Oklahoma City as we showcase the event.”

CUR would also like to express its appreciation for the support of undergraduate research to the 2015, 2016, 2017 NCUR hosts. Eastern Washington University will host the event this spring, April 16-18, 2015.
