Newswise — Meridian Health is gearing up for the ninth annual Paint the Town Pink event and is seeking community members to get involved in committees throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties. An informational mixer will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Townsquare Media Broadcast Studios (home of 94.3 the Point and 92.7 WOBM), in Toms River at 6:30 p.m.

Guests will have an opportunity to meet past and present Pink volunteers and learn more about the initiative. Registration is requested by calling 855-PINK-411. There will be free refreshments and giveaways at both events. Each May, towns in Monmouth and Ocean counties join Meridian Health’s Paint the Town Pink effort to raise awareness of the importance of annual mammography. In 2014, 35 towns across the two counties created a pink hue to remind women to get their annual mammograms, which is the best defense against breast cancer.

Support from community volunteers are what makes Paint the Town Pink so successful. From being a town chair and leading the charge, to decorating a business or school pink during the month of May, there are many ways to get involved in Paint the Town Pink. Community members are encouraged to attend the meeting on January 22 to simply learn more about the event, or to sign up as a committee member or chair.
