Newswise — (January 21, 2015; Toronto) The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s world-leading Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer event is very excited to announce a partnership with VIA Rail Canada that will help expedite the growth of the Toronto-based fundraising event in 2015, its fifth year. Through the four events to date, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer has raised over $9 million for Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is a dawn-to-dusk fundraising event that this year will take place on Saturday, September 26. Each team must raise $10,000, and through the day, plays five games, with food, beverages, live music, massage therapy and interactive games keeping participants engaged between games. A celebrity component adds to the excitement of the day.

As we approach the milestone fifth year, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer has issued a Global Challenge, bringing teams from far and wide to participate in this incredible fundraising event. VIA Rail Canada’s involvement is a critical step in the expansion of Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, as they will generously provide free rail travel to and from the event in Toronto for teams on the Montreal to Windsor corridor.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and will light a fire under our Global Challenge program,” stated Shawn Burt, Chief Hockey Officer at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “What an opportunity for our out-of-town teams to register and make a party out of playing in the event! VIA Rail Canada will really contribute to the expansion of Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer. We must never forget that funds raised by the event support critical cancer research at The Princess Margaret.”

“We are very pleased to partner with The Princess Margaret on Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer again this year,” added Pierre Santoni, Senior Director, Domestic and International Sales at VIA Rail Canada. “We have all been touched in some way by cancer, so for us to give players a more human way to travel to Toronto for THE Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is our way to contribute to conquering cancer in our lifetime.”
