Newswise — The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) today announced the recipients of the 2015 AAP Awards designed to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R).

“We are proud to honor the outstanding commitment and accomplishments of this year’s award winners,” said AAP Leadership Development and Recognition Committee (LDRC) Chair Michael L. Boninger, MD. “Through their research, scholarship and service to the field, they stand as exemplars to AAP’s 1,300 members and to all who are committed mentorship, leadership, and discovery in academic physiatry.”

AAP will honor the recipients at an awards ceremony on March 14, 2015 at the 2015 AAP Annual Meeting in San Antonio.

DISTUINGUISHED ACADEMICIANJeffrey B. Palmer, MD

This award is given to a member of the Association who has achieved distinction and peer recognition regionally or nationally by virtue of excellence as a teacher, researcher and/or administrator.

OUTSTANDING SERVICEKristjan T. Ragnarsson, MD

This honor is given to a member who has made major contributions to the organization or to the field through the Association over a significant period of time.

YOUNG ACADEMICIANDavid Morgenroth, MDThis award honors an academic physiatrist who has demonstrated outstanding performance in the areas of teaching, research and/or administration. The nominee must have an academic rank of associate professor or less and be no more than 5-years past residency/fellowship training.

MCLEAN OUTSTANDING RESIDENT/FELLOWPrakash Jayabalan, MD, PhD

This award is given to a member Resident/Fellow who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in academic leadership, teaching and education, and research. CAROLYN BRADDOM RITZLER RESEARCH AWARDJonathan F. Bean, MD, MS, MPH

This award is presented to an individual who has conducted research that has had profound impact on the science and/or practice of PM&R. The intent is to look at impact such as changes in clinical care, policy, or research direction.
