The Minnesota Orchestra is now in Cuba. Although their trip is funded by private donors, not the U.S. government, their performances are being hailed in the press as an act of diplomacy. The orchestra’s tour is made possible by an invitation from the Cuban Ministry of Culture, which demonstrates the improving relationship announced by President Obama last December. Apart from garnering media attention, what might the orchestra accomplish in Cuba? In her new book, "Music in America’s Cold War Diplomacy," Danielle Fosler-Lussier discusses how music can be a vital tool for building international relationships. She can discuss how the Minnesota Orchestra's trip fits in with this research. Her bio is here:https://music.osu.edu/people/fosler-lussier.2
