Newswise — Cynthia Barginere, DNP, RN, FACHE, has been appointed in the new position of senior vice president and chief operating officer for Rush University Hospital, effective on June 1.

“In this role, Cynthia will have responsibility for all operational aspects of our hospital, ensuring that we continue to deliver the service that best meet the needs of our patients, physicians, and staff, as well as the ongoing development of high quality, cost effective and integrated clinical programs,” said Michael Dandorph, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Rush University Medical Center.

During her four years at Rush serving as the Medical Center’s chief nursing officer, Barginere played a key role in transforming care at Rush, from supporting the move of many clinical services into Rush’s new hospital building, the Tower, in 2012 shortly after her arrival, to furthering nursing and advance practice provider development programs, and taking on executive leadership for the operations of Rush’s Women’s and Children’s services.

“Cynthia has a leadership approach that unites people across the organization toward the goals of providing our patients the very best care, our staff the very best environment to work and our students the very best setting to learn,” said Dandorph. “She is relentless in her pursuit of excellence, embraces the journey of process improvement, and is a role model in advancing the diverse and inclusive culture that Rush embraces.”

Prior to joining Rush, Barginere served as the chief operating officer and chief nursing officer of Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery, Alabama for five years, and held several executive responsibilities in nursing and hospital operations at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital during her 12-year tenure there. She also has served on many external boards and in leadership positions in the community. In addition, she was featured in the 2015 issue of the Chicago United Business Leaders of Color as an accomplished leader who has achieved professional success.
