Newswise — WASHINGTON – Earlier today, the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) making recommendations on the proposed rule for Stage 3 of the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs. AMGA comments express concern about the overall readiness of the healthcare information technology infrastructure to accommodate the new requirements for transmission of healthcare data between organizations, in addition to concerns about the increased threshold percentages for meeting measures beginning in 2018. The comments make specific recommendations that would ease the provider burden of meeting requirements for Stage 3.

Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, President and Chief Executive Officer of AMGA stated, “AMGA has always supported the goals of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, and our members have been eager to embrace them, despite the operational challenges they have presented. CMS has a tremendous opportunity to streamline program requirements so that the benefit of using healthcare information technology will be realized across the delivery system, while at the same time, recognizing that more work must be done to achieve true interoperability of health information systems.”
