Pflugerville, TX Pediatrician Dr. Avni Shah, DO, at Baylor Scott & White Pflugerville Clinic can discuss well-check visits:

Typically schools need physical forms for well check visits before they start the school year. So, then everyone is in a rush the last two weeks because they don’t schedule ahead of time. Some folks even miss the first few days of school because they couldn’t get in. So we always try to schedule the well-check visits ASAP while the child is on break before the rush right before school starts.

Well checks involve checking the child’s development, growth, weight, diet, habits, concerns of the parent, vaccinations and a time to meet at least once a year for any other questions. They should be scheduled as far in advance as possible to allow the medical provider to block adequate time, the parents can make sure their child’s physical is done prior to the school year for any forms and the provider has time to complete those forms. If a patient or family is new to the clinic, we will need vaccine records, growth charts and all previous records to do an effective exam PRIOR to the actual well check. So we encourage patients to try to request and send those records BEFORE coming in to see us.
