Newswise — Singapore, 9 June 2015 – SAP (NYSE: SAP) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have signed an agreement to help enterprises and students become better positioned in today’s digital economy. SAP and NUS will take part in joint activities to support the further understanding of information processes and their applications to the transformation of enterprises. This new agreement builds on existing collaborations initiated several years ago, on Enterprise Resource Planning technologies and applications.

Under this three-year agreement, SAP and NUS will deepen the understanding of business process management and the interconnection with data analytics through graduate and undergraduate programmes. NUS students will gain access to a cloud-based SAP HANA system, the in-memory computing platform for next-generation applications and analytics. In addition, both institutions will publish case studies across different lines-of-business, starting with the first one on the transformation of the finance organisation at SAP Asia Pacific Japan (APJ), where SAP HANA has been proven as a key enabler for innovation and productivity. This case study is expected to be completed by September this year, after which the results will be shared publicly and used for student training.

SAP will also work with select students from NUS Business Analytics Programme on capstone projects. One such project is to optimise SAP’s order-to-cash process in the APJ region, where students will study SAP’s business processes and systems and provide business insights using SAP Analytics tools.

"As leaders in education and research, it is important that we leverage these opportunities to educate undergraduate and postgraduate students in emerging problem areas. A great example of this is how we are educating our students on the interplay between business process management and data analytics. The integration of information management and process management is a long-standing aspiration in Information Systems, in Computer Science, and more recently, in Business Analytics education,” said Professor David S. Rosenblum, Dean, NUS School of Computing.

“It is crucial that our Business School students and faculty benefit from new technologies that help accelerate the transformation of operations in all industries. This transformation will deliver the next level of productivity and innovation in organisations in the coming decade”, said Professor Bernard Yeung, Dean and Stephen Riady Distinguished Professor, NUS Business School.

“In the last five years, technology innovations, digitalization, and market volatility have driven dramatic changes to enterprises, especially in the finance function. Automation and process innovation will provide significant value-add to enterprises and will remain a key focus area in the coming years. This collaboration with NUS will help students and businesses better prepare for the digital economy,” said Colin Sampson, Senior Vice President and SAP Ambassador, SAP APJ.

“As a company, we are devoted to our corporate aim of grooming the next generation of IT and business talent and are committed to helping enterprises run simpler. As our world becomes more inter-connected, enterprises have a renewed focus to leverage IT as an enabler of everything they do. This agreement with NUS supports both our passions and builds on Singapore’s knowledge-based economy, with a first step to create a financial workforce of the future,” adds Darren Rushworth, Managing Director of SAP Singapore.
