Newswise — Chicago, IL: The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association has elected Heidi D. Finnes, Pharm D, BCOP as a Board Member at large for the 2015-2016 term. A HOPA member since 2004, Dr. Finnes has filled leadership positions within HOPA as both the Program Committee chair and the Session Proposal Work Group chair.

Currently, Dr. Finnes is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Hematology/Oncology at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Rochester, Minnesota. She has been with Mayo Clinic since 1998, working in both inpatient and outpatient hematology/oncology and Cancer Center investigational drug services. Dr. Finnes is also an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Finnes is actively involved in a variety of leadership roles within Mayo Clinic, including developing cancer center order sets, reviewing patient reports for the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine Genomic Tumor Board and offering clinical trial and therapy recommendations.

Dr. Finnes serves as the committee chair of the Pharmacy Committee for the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology. In this position, Dr. Finnes explains that she has “built a repository for study and commercial drug templates, and developed processes for pharmacist involvement in Alliance clinical trial development and protocol review.” In order to improve pharmacy investigational drug services, she also participates on the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group melanoma and pharmacy committees and on the Southwestern Oncology Group pharmacy committee.

Dr. Finnes received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in 1998. Her areas of interest include melanoma, gastrointestinal cancers, and developmental therapeutics research.

HOPA is a nonprofit professional organization formed in 2004 to help oncology and hematology pharmacy practitioners and their associates provide the best possible cancer care. HOPA supports research, conducts educational conferences to advance knowledge, encourages professional development, and advocates for health policy issues that improve patient care.
