Newswise — Sonya Agnew, MD, has joined Loyola University Health System as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Dr. Agnew is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She sees patients at the Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge and the Loyola Outpatient Center in Maywood.

Dr. Agnew specializes in treating general hand and wrist problems. Her medical interests include arthritis of the hand and wrist, fractures, tendon and nerve injuries of the hand and forearm, and finger contractures. She performs minimally invasive procedures, including endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery and wrist arthroscopy, as well as complex reconstructive microsurgery.

Dr. Agnew comes to Loyola from the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center where she was the section chief of plastic surgery. She also was an instructor for the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Agnew received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She also completed her residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and her fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Washington.

In addition, Dr. Agnew is an accomplished researcher who has published and presented her work extensively. She also is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
