Newswise — August 10, 2015 – The editors of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery—Global Open®, the official medical journals of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), are pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Best Paper Awards, recognizing outstanding new research and reviews from these leading plastic surgery journals.

The winning topics reflect intriguing trends in plastic surgery research, techniques, and outcomes—including the role of stem cells in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, the proportions of the "perfect breast," 3D nipple tattooing after breast reconstruction, and facial feminization surgery. Authors will be honored at Plastic Surgery—The Meeting 2015, the annual scientific meeting of the ASPS, to be held October 16-20, 2015, in Boston, Mass.

Awards Recognize Most-Accessed Plastic Surgery PapersThe awards recognize the best new papers by US and International authors published in the prior year. "Now in their third year, our annual Best Paper Awards are a fitting and fun way to acknowledge the researchers whose hard work drives new insights and progress in our specialty," comments Dr. Rod J. Rohrich, Editor-in-Chief of both journals.

The winner for Best Case Report-Gold, is "Silicone Breast Implants Can Save Lives" by Heather Rosen, Mark Brzezienski, and Kent Kihyet Higdon. The full 2015 Best Paper Awards are listed and linked in special topic collections posted on the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery—Global Open websites. The PRS Best Papers collection will be freely available through November 10; PRS Global Open content is always freely accessible to the reader.

The awards reflect an objective scoring process, based on the number of full-text and PDF article views on the journal website, the number of times the papers were shared by e-mail, the number of times they were added to a user's personal collection on www.PRSJournal.com or www.PRSGlobalOpen.com. Average monthly scores were calculated to adjust for the time the paper was available.

All those attending Plastic Surgery—The Meeting 2015 are invited to join Dr. Rohrich at the PRS and PRS Global Open booth in the ASPS Resource Center on Sunday, October 12, at 2:45 pm for the Best Paper Awards presentation ceremony. "Please join us in congratulating this year's award winners," Dr. Rohrich adds. "We hope their efforts will inspire our readership to complete and submit their own 'best paper' to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and PRS Global Open!"

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery—Global Open® are published by Wolters Kluwer.
