Newswise — Reston, Va. (Aug. 17, 2015) — Leonard Berlin, MD, FACR, and Bruce J. Hillman, MD, FACR, are the 2015 recipients of the Radiology Leadership Institute® (RLI) Leadership Luminary Award. Berlin and Hillman were recognized at the recent RLI Leadership Summit held at Babson College in Wellesley, MA.

The Leadership Luminary Award is an honorary designation intended to distinguish and celebrate the lifetime achievements of individuals who have elevated the RLI’s vision in radiology, embodying both leadership and innovation in their actions and legacy.

Berlin is Professor of Radiology at both Rush Medical College and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He has written more than 430 scientific publications, seven book chapters and a book entitled “Malpractice Issues in Radiology,” now in its third edition. Berlin has given more than 385 lectures on various medical subjects both nationally and internationally, primarily on the topic of radiologic malpractice and risk management, and delivered the Annual Oration at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA). He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology, and is a Fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR). Berlin was awarded the Gold Medals for Distinguished Service to Radiology by the American Roentgen Ray Society in 2002, the Chicago Radiological Society in 2005 and the ACR in 2010.

Hillman is Professor of Radiology and Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA). He was chair of the Department of Radiology and president of the UVA Health Services Foundation — the UVA physicians’ professional corporation. He has served as founding editor of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR®) since 2003. From 1999–2007, Hillman was the founding principal investigator and chair of the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) — an NCI-funded clinical trials cooperative group that received nearly $200 million in grants and conducted more than 30 multi-center imaging studies under his leadership. He has published more than 180 peer-reviewed journal articles and 200 book chapters, review articles, editorials, and texts. Hillman has been president of five radiological societies and a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors since 1997. He was previously editor-in-chief of Investigative Radiology and founding editor-in-chief of Academic Radiology.

Nominations for the 2016 RLI Leadership Luminary Award will open in November 2015. Winners will be announced at the 2016 RLI Leadership Summit on September 8-11, 2016 at Babson College in Wellesley, MA.
