Newswise — Dr. Mark Dawkins, dean of the Coggin College of Business at the University of North Florida, was recently inducted into The PhD Project Hall of Fame for his positive leadership and significant impact on minority business doctoral students and faculty.

He is one of only three select individuals nationwide to be recognized in 2015 by The PhD Project, an award-winning program designed to increase diversity in management. The organization is dedicated to increasing workplace diversity by increasing the diversity of business school faculty who encourage, mentor, support and enhance the preparation of tomorrow’s leaders.

“Mark is a constant in The PhD Project,” said Dr. Pamela Smith, a Hall of Fame nominator. “He always attends meetings, advises students and consistently has a positive outlook on our success.”

For 20 years, Dawkins has supported efforts of The PhD Project and was previously honored by the organization as a Distinguished Professor for Excellence, and he currently advises its Accounting Doctoral Student Association (ADSA). He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the ADSA’s annual conference August 9 in Chicago, Ill. and will be recognized at The PhD Project’s annual conference in November.

He has received several additional accolades throughout his career, including the Alpha Kappa Psi Accounting Teacher of the Year Award (2006 and 2003), and the co-recipient of the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Teacher of the Year award at the University of Georgia (2006 and 2003). He was one of five recipients of the inaugural Ernst & Young Inclusive Excellence Award for Accounting and Business School Faculty.

Dawkins received his doctorate in accounting from Florida State University, as well as a master’s degree in business administration and accounting, both from the University of Florida. He earned his bachelor’s degree in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
