CHICAGO — Thomas Mockaitis, an expert on terrorism-counterterrorism at DePaul University, is available to discuss ISIS, domestic terrorism and the current political rhetoric surrounding these issues. In a recent online post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-mockaitis/the-limits-of-force_b_8848244.html) he challenges the call for harsher military measures against ISIS and concludes: “What is to be done about ISIS? Unglamorous though it may be, the current strategy is the correct one. Keeping the Islamic State under constant pressure, targeting its leaders, degrading its capabilities and disrupting it finances is already having an effect and will ultimately succeed.”

Professor Mockaitis is an historian who studies terrorism, insurgency, international security and military history. He also team-teaches counterterrorism courses for the U.S. government at venues around the world. A frequent media commentator, Mockaitis is a Huffington Post contributor who regularly appears on WGN TV and other Chicago television and radio programs.

Mockaitis earned a doctorate and master’s degree in modern British and Irish history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; and a bachelor’s degree in European history from Allegheny College, Meadville, Pennsylvania. He has written numerous books and articles on terrorism, insurgency, peace operations and military history, including “The ‘New’ Terrorism: Myths and Reality,” “Iraq and the Challenge of Counterinsurgency” and “Osama Bin Laden: A Biography.” He is an editor of “Small Wars and Insurgencies” and “The Iraq War Encyclopedia.”

Mockaitis blogs regularly at https://tmockait.wordpress.com. A Dec. 7, 2015, post examined whether the pressure was getting to ISIS. “ISIS is lashing out at its enemies precisely because the pressure is getting to it,” he wrote.Mockaitis tweets at @DrMockaitis.
