Newswise — CHICAGO— The Institute of Food Technologist’s (IFT) Higher Education Review Board (HERB) recently added four new schools to their list of approved undergraduate food science programs, bringing the total list to 61 schools. The primary goal of the Education Standards is to enhance excellence in food science education. Approved schools are listed on IFT.org and is currently being updated with information on the four new programs.
The four new approved schools are:• Beijing Technology and Business University (China)• McGill University (Canada)• Shanghai Ocean University (China)• Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysia)
Of the total 61 approved schools, 39 are in the United States and 22 are outside the US and located in the following countries. The number in parenthesis shows how many schools are approved in that country.

HERB is an appointed group of IFT members that review and approve undergraduate food science programs in accordance to the Education Standards approved by the IFT Board of Directors. Programs are approved for five years and must reapply every five years. HERB assists programs and provides feedback throughout the process.
