UT Astrophysics Expert Can Explain Impact, Meaning of Gravitational Waves Discovery

Newswise — KNOXVILLE—Scientists today announced the discovery of gravitational waves—a finding that alludes to Albert Einstein's prediction many decades ago.

The discovery would help scientists search for objects they didn't know previously existed. The gravitational waves can form from a giant black hole merger.

Michael Guidry, professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is available to explain the new discovery and the impact of this physics breakthrough.

Guidry teaches general relativity courses that deal with black holes, cosmology, and gravitational waves, and is a member of a UT/ORNL computational astrophysics group that studies the formation of gravitational waves in supernova explosions.
