Newswise — In 1976, William W. Warner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book Beautiful Swimmers cast a national spotlight on the Chesapeake Bay and its special blue crab.

Forty years later, Beautiful Swimmers Revisited, a new documentary, looks back on what has happened since then. The results, in some ways, are surprising.

Produced by renowned environmental writer Tom Horton, photographer David Harp and filmmaker Sandy Cannon-Brown, Beautiful Swimmers Revisited airs as part of Maryland Public Television’s “Chesapeake Bay Week” on Tuesday, April 26, following its premiere at the Environmental Film Festival in Washington, D.C., Saturday, March 19.

A 35-year veteran of The Baltimore Sun and winner of the John Burroughs Award, Horton has written for National Geographic and Rolling Stone, as well as nine books. He stays close to his beloved Bay as environmental studies professor of practice at Salisbury University.
