Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University to Hold National Conference on Addressing Social, Legal Factors that Affect Health
Newswise — WASHINGTON, DC and INDIANAPOLIS, IN (March 25, 2016)—The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership, part of Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University, will host its eleventh annual conference on April 6-8, 2016, in Indianapolis, Indiana to discuss how to better address the social and civil legal problems that negatively affect the health of 50 million low-income Americans. Leaders from health care, law, public health, and government in 36 states will present research and strategies aimed at effectively integrating social and legal interventions into routine health care.
With featured remarks from James Corbett, Senior Vice President of Community Health and Values Integration at Centura Health; Parveen Chand, Chief Operating Officer at Eskenazi Health; and Bob Marsalli, Executive Director of the Montana Primary Care Association; participants will explore topics including:
- The positive impact of civil legal aid services on the health of children, pregnant women, and high-need, high-cost patients
- The role of civil legal aid lawyers in helping hospitals and health centers address population health and payment reform
- Partnerships between Primary Care Associations and statewide legal aid agencies
- How Medicaid and federal health center funding can help support civil legal services for patients
