Newswise — What many may not know is that the Zika virus is a distant cousin of hepatitis C, a blood borne-virus that attacks the liver and often co-infects HIV patients. At the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Kenneth Sherman, MD, PhD, Gould Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases, oversees a lab that researches viruses that affect or are affected by HIV. Sherman will present preliminary findings on Zika exposure among HIV infected patients in Ghana at an international Zika conference at Emory University, May 1-3. Sherman’s talk, “Zika Virus in an HIV-infected Cohort in Ghana” will be presented Monday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to noon. Sherman can speak about his findings after Monday’s presentation.
