Newswise — The annual Superhero Soiree, hosted by K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, took place on Friday, April 29 at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank, NJ and raised $140,000 for pediatric palliative care. During the event, Kyra Citron, director of the Kid’s Corner at Charles Lafitte Foundation (CLF), was presented with the Hometown Hero Award and Charles K. Dadzie, M.D. a pediatric pulmonologist at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, received the Physician Hero Award. The Hero awards are presented annually to honor philanthropists and leaders in the community for outstanding service to others in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
“It is an incredible honor to accept the Hometown Hero Award from K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital,” explained Kyra Citron. “My parents raised me to give back, so from a young age, helping others has been a passion of mine. I hope that through this award and my work with the CLF, I can inspire others to help make a difference.” In Kyra’s role as director of the Kid’s Corner at the Charles Lafitte Foundation, she motivates kids to help themselves and other kids lead healthy, satisfying, and enriched lives.
Charles K. Dadzie, M.D. is one of the founding fathers of K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. He came to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in 1982 to deliver a speech about respiratory failure in children and joined the team in 1983. “It is quite humbling to receive the Physician Hero Award,” explained Charles K. Dadzie, M.D. “I’ve been a part of the Jersey Shore team for over 30 years and have always been motivated by the philanthropic leaders who have helped shape K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. It’s a true honor to be recognized among this highly regarded group.”
Each year, proceeds from the Superhero Soiree benefit K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, ensuring the most advanced, compassionate care from birth. All funds raised at this year’s event will be dedicated to strengthening pediatric palliative care for children and their families with chronic illnesses and life-threatening medical conditions. The goal of the Pediatric Palliative Care Program at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital is to add life to the child’s years, not simply years to the child’s life.
