Newswise — MAYWOOD, il. - Loyola Medicine sports medicine physician Nathaniel Jones, MD, will serve as team physician for U.S. Soccer’s under-23 women’s team in the four-nation Nordic Tournament June 2-7 in Shropshire, England. The U.S. will play Sweden June 2, Norway June 4 and England June 7.

The U.S. team includes many of the nation’s top female players under age 23. Several of its players are expected to make the U.S. Olympic team.

“It’s an honor to serve as their team physician,” Dr. Jones said. “I love the sport and working with high-level athletes.”Dr. Jones also served as team physician for the U.S. under-20 men’s soccer team during their 2012 tournament in Spain, and was among the team physicians for the U.S. men’s soccer team during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Dr. Jones, who grew up in Brazil, said soccer is his favorite sport. He played midfielder on his high school team, club soccer at the University of Iowa and now plays indoor soccer.

Dr. Jones is a family physician who specializes in sports injuries and sports medicine. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
