Bayshore Community Hospital Diabetes Self-Management Education Program Earns Re-Certification by American Diabetes AssociationProgram recognized for meeting national standard
Newswise — Holmdel, N.J. – June 6, 2016 – The Diabetes Self-Management program at Bayshore Community Hospital is pleased to announced that it has received re-certification from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for the fourth time for meeting the national standard. The ADA process requires the submission of an annual status report, additional documentation, as well as an unannounced inspection. Hospitals must re-apply every four years.
The program is provided by a certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian, who offers a diabetes overview along with information about treatment options; nutrition management; physical activity; use of medication; blood sugar monitoring; preventing and detecting acute and chronic complications; and the development of personal strategies to address psychosocial issues, promote health, and affect behavioral changes.
“Our comprehensive program is developed with the patient’s needs in mind,” says Monica Bais, M.D., chairperson of Bayshore’s diabetes advisory committee. “Diabetes can be a challenging disease, but it can be managed if individuals are properly educated. That’s why this program is so important and why we are so pleased to again earn this re-certification.”
Most health insurance plans cover participation in the program, however a prescription is required. Upon completion of the program, the prescribing physician will receive a report detailing the patient’s achievement.
Bayshore first received certification for the program in 2003, and has achieved re-certification in 2007, 2011, and 2015, which will be valid until May 2019.
