Newswise — (June 21, 2016: Toronto) The 3rd Annual Golf to Conquer Cancer fundraising tournament took place on Monday June 13th at Coppinwood and Granite Golf Clubs. On behalf of presenting sponsor Harry Rosen Inc., The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is proud to announce that over $1.2 million has been raised, bringing the three year total raised to $3.4 million. The event continues to be the highest-grossing, single-day golf tournament supporting the cancer cause in all of Canada. All proceeds will be directed to advance Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.

Played at two of the pre-eminent golf courses in Ontario, Golf to Conquer Cancer is supported by over fifty sponsors and partners including presenting sponsor Harry Rosen Inc., platinum sponsor Accompass and national gold sponsors - Cadillac Fairview, Air Canada and Merit Travel, as well as Great-West Life, London Life & Canada Life.

“Without the fantastic support from the corporate community, individual donors and all of our participants, we could not make such a massive impact from this event. I’d like to thank everyone for their contributions to this best-in-class tournament, and helping us raise an incredible $1.2 million for Personalized Cancer Medicine at The Princess Margaret” said Nick Taylor, Director of New Revenue and Chief Golf Officer at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

While none of the golfers duplicated the hole in one that took place at the 2015 event, everyone was thrilled at the chance of winning one of the amazing super cars from new luxury car hole in one sponsor Pfaff Automotive Partners. Four contest hole winners from each host course automatically qualified for the Jones Brown $1 Million Hole in One Shootout with several qualifiers rolling past the hole with their attempts. The tournament champions were Greenpark Homes playing out of Coppinwood and Pal Insurance from the Granite Golf Club location. This year’s champions all received a $1,000.00 gift card for Harry Rosen.

The President & CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Mr. Paul Alofs shared his appreciation for the golfers, sponsors and donors in his remarks during the reception where he reminded everyone that 40% of people at the event could be diagnosed with cancer at some point. “While the current statistics are frightening in terms of cancer diagnosis and the expected increase by 2030 seems perhaps disheartening, the dollars raised here today will make a difference. I’d like to personally thank each of you for participating as a golfer, a sponsor, donor or supplier at the event. With the contribution of such valuable funds to the event, we will continue to make a difference.”

Three time committee chair Larry Rosen, the Chairman and CEO of Harry Rosen Inc. and a director on The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation board, thanked everyone for supporting this important tournament and went on to say, “We made a choice as a company, in consultation with our employees, our brand partners and our customers, to support this cause in a big way. Each of you have demonstrated a desire to join us as we work together to conquer cancer in our lifetime by supporting this world class centre we are so fortunate to have in Canada.”

Golf to Conquer Cancer was conceived in September 2013 as a single-day premium golf event for 120 participants at an exclusive private golf course with many customized features and benefits unlike any other golf fundraiser of its kind. Following the great success of the 2014 event, the 2nd annual Golf to Conquer Cancer expanded to include both Coppinwood Golf Club and Granite Golf Club, and was held Monday, June 15. The 3rd annual event continued to deliver an incredible experience with golfers in mind. Details about the 2017 event program will be released in the coming weeks. For now, interested golfers are asked to save the date of Monday, June 12th, 2017 as the date of the 4th annual event.
