The media relations specialist performs general media relations duties with an emphasis on writing and editing press releases, pitch letters, feature stories, faculty expert profiles and social media content for Keck Medicine of USC and the Keck School of Medicine. Ability to understand science research and translate to consumer language, while following protocols for research/science press release writing that involve grants and outside associations or other entities. Additional media relations responsibilities include managing media department news placements, preparing weekly News & Notes submissions and distribution of press releases. Provide general media relations back-up support for press conferences, symposiums, crisis issues or other events as situations arise.

Requirements

Minimum Education: - Bachelor’s Degree required - Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience/Knowledge: - 3 years experience minimum, 5 years preferred. - Mastery of AP Stylebook writing guides. - Minimum Experience with writing, editing, proofreading, and the preparation of materials for publication. - Preferred Experience writing and editing of materials closely related to health system activities.

Required License/Certification: - A Fire and Safety card must be presented upon hire or must be obtained at our facility within the first 30 days of hire and maintained by renewing before expiration date.
