Newswise — A collaborative effort between Wichita State University engineering and physical therapy students has provided new opportunities to three local children with disabilities.

As part of the project GoBabyGo!, a retrofitting program created in 2006 by the University of Delaware, the WSU students have spent all fall semester modifying toy ride-on cars for the children.

Breckyn is incredibly social and ready to be on the move. She has Down’s Syndrome and has had a medically challenging life so far, including cardiac surgeries and nutrition through a feeding tube.

Brody has a form of dwarfism that limits his reach. His feet are not ready for weight bearing yet, and he wears a neck brace to protect his cervical vertebrae.

Jairo has Caudal Regression Syndrome. He is missing parts of his lower spine and pelvis and is unable to move his lower body and legs. He is incredibly strong and is efficient using his arms to get around.

Through the students’ efforts, all three children now have the chance to be more mobile than ever before.
