Western Illinois University's Homeland Security Research Program Director Dean Alexander is available for phone interviews regarding the recent package bomb mailings and mass shooting in Pittsburgh (PA).

Alexander is a professor in Western's School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) and teaches LEJA and homeland security courses. He also conducts homeland security-related research, writes articles for security publications and presents at international conferences on a regular basis.

In addition to his work in the homeland security arena, Alexander has published recent articles about terrorism challenges.

Since publishing on terrorism in 1991, Prof. Alexander has written several books on the subject, including: The Islamic State: Combating the Caliphate Without Borders (Lexington, 2015), Business Confronts Terrorism: Risks and Responses (University of Wisconsin Press, 2004), and Terrorism and Business: The Impact of September 11, 2001 (Transnational, 2002). Among some of his books on international business are: NAFTA and the Environment (Kluwer, 1996), NAFTA and Investment (Kluwer, 1995), and Prospects of a U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement (Martinus Nijhoff, 1994).

His numerous peer-reviewed articles on terrorism, security, and legal issues have appeared in Defense Against Terrorism Review, Journal of Money Laundering Control, Journal of Security Strategies, Journal of Applied Security Research, and Rutgers Computer and Technology Law Journal, among others. Also, he has published articles and op-eds in Police Chief Magazine, HS Today, American Police Beat, Security Magazine, PI Magazine, Intersec, Washington Times, and Journal of Commerce.
