Newswise — The Full-Time MBA program at the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business received a No. 2 ranking for entrepreneurship by Bloomberg Businessweek in their listing of the Best Business Schools for 2018 released Nov. 8. Overall, the Eccles School jumped 20 spots in the ranking to No. 36 in the country, and it received another No. 2 ranking on the index for learning.

“We are thrilled to see our Full-Time MBA program recognized by Bloomberg Businessweek and for another top-50 ranking,” said Brad Vierig, associate dean of MBA Programs & Executive Education at the Eccles School. “From the faculty and staff we’ve hired, to the buildings we’ve constructed, to the scholarship dollars we’ve awarded — all of it was to move our MBA programs forward. I’m incredibly proud of our team and the progress we’ve made over the past three years to ensure our Full-Time MBA students have the best possible experience and add immediate value for their employers upon graduation.”

Some schools around the nation have chosen to shutter their traditional MBA programs in favor of shorter, more specialized options, but the Eccles School has not only maintained a strong full-time MBA but has invested increasingly more in its growth in recent years.

“These rankings show our investment is paying off by preparing students for excellent careers,” said Taylor Randall, dean of the David Eccles School of Business. “We are working to continue to ensure our students are on the leading-edge of business thought, and our incorporation of entrepreneurial grit into our curriculum is clearly benefiting our students and the exceptional companies that hire our graduates.”

The Eccles School has expanded its offerings for entrepreneurship in recent years through the nationally ranked Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute and Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy. New opportunities include many extracurricular programs at Lassonde Studios – a five-story building dedicated to student entrepreneurship – and expanded academic options.

“We are proud to be recognized as one of the best schools in the country to study entrepreneurship,” said Troy D’Ambrosio, the executive director of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute and an assistant dean at the Eccles School. “This is one of many recognitions we have received for the way we are changing how students think about and experience entrepreneurship on campus. We look forward to many more great years as we fulfill our mission to provide students with transformative learning opportunities.”

On the academic side, the Eccles School is expanding entrepreneurship options with the addition of new courses, a global program, and world-renowned faculty and researchers.

“We provide an experiential classroom environment, where students learn theoretical frameworks, real-world best practices and actionable skills that are important for entrepreneurial success,” said Todd Zenger, chair of the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy. “Students who complete our program are well-prepared to succeed in a startup – either their own or someone else’s – and to innovate and add value wherever they end up.”

The ranking reflects the hard work of the faculty and staff, including academic advisors and career coaches, to ensure an outstanding experience for students from their first day in the classroom to their first day in the boardroom.

“We are committed to the power of full-time MBA programs, and I am gratified that our commitment has been recognized with this ranking,” said Stephanie Geisler, Full-Time MBA program director. “More importantly, however, I am extremely proud that we are providing real value to our students and to the companies who hire them.”
